Synopsis:
"Dad, Dog and Fish" is a memoir about my life with my Dad and Bunkie, my yellow Labrador Retriever wonder dog. The story begins in 1960's Southern California and ends in a 1723 stone farmhouse in South East Pennsylvania, deep in Amish country. This memoir is the story of the life of a simple man that loved family, life, humor and animals (especially dogs). This memoir is a
humorous recount of that life that confronts serious issues as well as philosophical outlooks.

I grew up in a neighborhood of boys. I NEVER understood why I was the only one who had to wear a shirt during the summer. I wanted to be "bare tummy" like the rest of the guys!!!

I remember going to the neighborhood store and buying penny candy. We took forever selecting 5 cents worth of candy!

ReplyDeleteI can remember playing on our bunkbeds with my sister - we would always take trips and the top bunk would be a plane and the bottom bunk would be a train or car.

My Dad and I would always share a pair of cokes (it came in glass bottles then so giving my age away) on the back porch after he came home from work. I was an only child and he was tragically killed in a car accident when I was eleven.

These are all great memories. Ya'll need to write them down for your families sake. Remember that when you're gone, your memories are gone unless you preserve them somehow.
ReplyDeleteI hope that the winners enjoy the book. Good luck!

I grew up in Mississippi in the 1950's and 60's. One of my favorite memories was listening to the the train whistles at night. I grew up having a love for trains because my uncle worked for the railroad. He taught us to love and respect the trains. Steam train excursions were a favorite treat during my childhood!

As children, my brother, sister and I each had our own tree. Mine was a maple tree in our front yard. Whenever I wanted to be alone, I would climb up the tree and just sit and think, daydream or sometimes read. I also used the tree a lot during my teenage years to be alone, cry or pout! What great memories!

My family would go to a lake every year and waterski, play in the water and get sunburned (ouch).
ReplyDeleteOne of my fondest childhood memories is jumping off the swingset, doing a sumersault, and rolling down the hill (all in one motion of course!) I'm still surprised we survived. Imagine 6 kids and only 2 trips to the emergency room!
ReplyDeleteOn the rare occasion that it snowed in the South where I grew up, my brother in law and I would make sleds out of pieces of cardboard--I don't think any stores sell actual sleds around here--and sled down the hill in our neighbor's back yard. We'd always fly off the cardboard when we hit the bottom. Wonder we didn't break our necks, but it was great fun!
