Synopsis:
Tyler Thompson hates that he never knows the answers to any of Miss Trimble's questions in class. But one day, Tyler accidentally unlocks a secret trapdoor beneath his school desk! He discovers a dark, mysterious basement filled with old books guarded by a magical talking dog named Barnabas Bailey. Now, with the help of the books and Barnabas, Tyler can travel to any time in the past to learn about history up close.

My Opinioin:

Poor Tyler can't catch a break. He can't remember any of his history lessons and the school bully picks on him. All Tyler wants is a friend.. and maybe to talk to that girl..

Lori Jordan-Rice took an amazing idea and gave it life through loveable characters.
Concerned with the fact that children weren't retaining information in history classes, she has gives us a series of book that children can love and have fun with. That is how we remember things.

Book 1 intoduces us to all of the characters and gives us a feel for who they are. It builds up the situation so that in the next book, which I look forward too, we are right in the story ready to jump in the trapdoor and let the learning begin.

Will Tyler learn his history and pass the class? Will he be able to make friends? We'll see....

This is a great series that a child will walk awawy with more than just a story. They will take with themsome of the fundamentals of history.

5 stars.
